Elmo is a puppet character on the legendary children's television show
Sesame Street. A small monster covered in red fur, Elmo can currently be seen hosting the last fifteen minutes of
Sesame Street in his own segment called Elmo's World. This segment is specifically targeted at toddlers. Other
characters in this segment include Elmo's goldfish called Dorothy and Mr Noodle. That Elmo has his own segment in
the show is down to his enormous popularity since the Tickle Me Elmo doll became the must-have Christmas present
several years ago. Elmo has actually been on Sesame Street since the 1970s but it was not until 1984 when
Kevin Clash started to work with him that the Elmo we know and love today was born.
Elmo was a regular guest on The Rosie O'Donnell Show and has since
appeared on Martha Stewart Living, Rove Live and The Tony Danza Show. Elmo has starred in two movies, 1999's "Elmo
In Grouchland", and "Elmo Save Christmas". Elmo has also appeared in the West Wing during the fifth season along
with Big Bird.
Elmo has also testified before the U.S. Congress in front of the House
Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education. He was there to argue that more
funding should be made available for music in education.
